Free as a bird !

A policy of Dr. Vijai Kumar, a veterinary surgeon at the Jain Charity Bird Hospital, here bandaging an injured peacock wing noticed by one of the staff.

No one likes to be deprived from his freedom, imprisoned in a cage, so why should a bird, born free in nature, suffer depression, encaged for our pleasure ?

The hospital, unique in the world, was founded in 1929 and found it's place in the yard of the 16th century Digamber Jain temple across the Red Ford. It runs totally on donations to take care of about 2,500 birds to be set free when they are cured and able.

A most satisfying moment, to give a living being back it's freedom, a Jain philosophy, to respect life of all being.

Interesting and warm scene, very good moment.
Good contact with vetereinary.
I don't like really colors here but I think you left colors beceause of the bird.

Hello Hank,
This is a rather neglected picture that deserves a smiley because it tells us something about the marvellous diversity and richness of Indian society. It is certainly possible to argue that there are millions of humans out there who would need the attention these birds get. Still, when there are people willing to attend to the medical needs of peacocks and pigeons there is proof of some human dignity left in the society.

This is lovely. I'm in the process of understanding (in my mid-life crisis at the moment, I admit) that there is sooo much positive energy in plants and birds or any animals of course. This picture helps me. Thank you! I'm open to any contacts from your side, if I can be of any help.
