"While searching TreakEarth pages for the photos of Podlasie district I got frozen when encountered a thumbnail of an elderly woman. the woman, my grandmother.
She died a month ago. For me it was a hard moment...
The photo is excellent - it reflects exactly the character of my grandma, I can see more in this face than the other people can. It is the most beautiful photo I have ever seen.

15 Long Years
Aged 76 in 2006 when I met her.
Soviets invaded this part of Poland on 17 September 1939.
She was sent to Siberia in 1941 together with her family (and thousands of other families) just like that, just because she was Polish. Just because Soviets decided to do so.
She met there the German soldiers of von Paulus army. They were let free in 1949, as she told me.
She was released6 years later than the enemy soldiers, in 1955. After 15 years in Siberia. Just because she was Pole...
