Photographer's Note

the Grand Bazaar was built by 1461, under the rule of Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror...during the 16th and 18th century, many fires and earthquakes broke out near or in the Bazaar...the whole story of the Bazaar is one of continuous destruction and reconstruction...(it still is, like many touristic places in Turkey...)

bazaar includes an area of 30,700 square meters, with 65 streets and alleys and over 4000 shops...

it is not a place for the faint will be constantly barraged with pushy salesmen that usually begins with: "excuse me please", "this way, please" or the ever popular "where are you from?" and "are you American?...or Spanish...or French" as you stroll past the shops....
