Photographer's Note
art gallery: 3
There was an art instilation of paper glued to a think laminate. It had no title and cost $800. I didn't understand it, and I figured others didn't either so I hung around and waited for someone to go looking at it with the same questions I had.
I tried a sepia tone with an increase in cyan. I am wondering about sepias and other toning elements so I thought I would give it a try. I don't think I totally understand it, or when to use it. So I would love to hear any comments on the color specifically too. I am uploading the original in the W/S space.

Hey Brady,
Once again I love your thinking with this photo, your ideas behind your shots I often relate to my own when taking shots. Some great use of space with this shot to bring all the attention to the subject, and the angle just adds a bit of crazyness to the shot. Well done.

Brady,
I'm not sure I would have used sepia in this shot especially after seeing the original. You lost the nice subtle coloring of the floor and depth because of a diminished range of values. I also think there is too much yellow in this sepia making it muddy. I think I use sepia for two reasons. One, I feel more inclined to use it in a shot that has a mono chromatic feel to it and I want to emphasize that feature and perhaps give it a little more color. Two, I would use it when I want to convey warmth in a shot. I had not really thought of this in-depth before so this is the first of my thoughts on the subject of sepia and definitely not the final word. I am interested now to explore this a little further.
Concerning your composition, pov, and subject I feel you have really come a long way. This shot is excellent especially in color. This is my favorite of all of your gallery shots and one of my favorites of all your collection so far. I really like the negative space in this shot. You have really begun to understand the relevance of giving the eye guidance. The tilt of the shot makes me see the importants of the paper on the floor perhaps even adding to the confusion of what he is looking at. The picture coming in to the shot on the left pushes me back into the shot and the distance from the subject adds to the pensive feel this man is giving off. Not to mention you captured him in the perfect pose. He is crossing his arms, in a sense unwilling to accept or perhaps confused at what he is looking at. All of these elements and your artist eyes ability see and capture this make this shot excellent.

J'aime le plan incliné de cette image, qui laisse penser que les papiers ont glissé vers la droite. Bien vu.

Ciao brady,
I find very appropriate the abstract tonality to underline the contemplative (or perplexed? ;) ) laying of the visitor of the show.
Good composition

Very interesting shot, Brady. It is certainly not one where you get impressed by an awsome landscape, amazing colors, etc. The title is intriguing and the composition also. I really have to submerge in what was going when you took this picture. Your text complements very well.
The question when sepia and if sepia was the right one ... I like both pitures a lot. Probably I prefer the monochromatic one. It underscores the puzzled look of the person in your picture, your puzzlement when you saw this $800 piece of art and my puzzlement when I saw this picture in the first second.
I personally use sepia for vintage impression. I might start to look and use it differently now.

Excellent compo and POV. Excellent framing. I like that sepia. Very intelligent and a little funny photo.

I like the moment you captured here. I have seen this installation and had the same reaction. You have communicated this well!
