Here is a close-up of some of the kids in the photograph that I posted yesterday. After the kids had calmed down a little from the excitement of seeing a camera (I am sure it wasn’t the first time), the girl in the yellow top started adopting some ‘model’ poses. I don’t know where she got the poses from, because none of the villagers have television and there are no cinemas in Kiribati. Maybe it was something she picked up from a magazine or some of the older girls in the dance celebrations that they have in Kiribati on Independence Day each year.

I liked this particular pose because of the little girl peeking out from behind her – almost as if she doesn’t realise that she is in camera shot. I originally cropped this with just those two girls in it, but then tried a landscape crop to include the girl on the left who is laughing at her friends behind her (out of frame) about the antics of the ‘model’ girl. I am sure that the girl on the left didn’t realise that she was in the frame. After comparing the two crops, I decided I liked the second one the best, so that is the one I am posting. However, I will post the original crop to the workshop to see if you agree with me.
