Photographer's Note
Please open in a new tab for a better version.
This was about 20 minutes before I reached the playground shown in my latest post. The November afternoon light was already rather weak, but I liked it enough to take a photo.
Most wide views of Stockholm are taken from the hills of Södermalm island. So was this photo, but in this case I turned away from the city center and its well known features.
Closest to the water – a bay of the Baltic Sea – is a part of Skeppsholmen (Ship's Islet). The elegant buildings on both sides of the church further back are situated in the posh district of Östermalm, and in the background we see some larger buildings in a newer residential area on the northeastern outskirts of the city.
In case you haven't already noticed the steam engine mentioned in the title, it's on top of the copper covered dome of the building below me. The engine was placed there to symbolize that this building originally was the city terminal of a suburban railway line.
You can see the building from down in the street in the WS.
The Google camera didn't have access to the footpath where I took the main photo, but I will show you where I took the WS.

Dear Gert,
The building is more mysterious on the main photo, this is beyond doubt. And the play of yellow and deep blue is also enhances the photo. The steam engine was hard to spot, I only noticed it after I read your note.
Best Wishes
Gy.

Hej Gert
I like the tiered appearance of the bg cliffs and terraces in 5 distinct layers. The copper colored cupola at left adds depth and layering. The little black locomotive high atop the cupola is quaint. Tfs!

Nice trick with the steam-engine, gert, Unless reading the note - I would keep looking and asking about...
A prominent POV over the waterway and town across. The subdued light gave special ambiance to the scene.
Good afternoon,

Hello Hert,
For me, the title is a bit confusing. I would call it a steam locomotive (the engine is inside). I recognize of course the building where you worked. In my photos, I have also this institute (Sju sjösjuka sjömän ..) but from the distance. In your photo, it looks especially attractive because it is so big compared to other objects. Nice colours, pleasant atmosphere on a sunny day.
Best regards Malgo

Hi Gert,
THe branches on the right are helping to frame the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the dome and of the buildings in the background. The small steam engine is hard to see without reading your note. Have a nice day.

Hello Gert,
After reading the title I started looking for a steamboat :) and began to wonder where you could have seen it.
But if your title had been steam train, I probably would have started looking between the houses on the other side of the water. Only with the mention of 'steam plane' I would probably start looking in the sky :) and since a steam plane no longer exists, I would probably never find the locomotive without your note.
However, the silhouette of a locomotive clearly stands out against the blue sky.
Nice view of that part of Stockholm where successive rows of houses and larger buildings are visible because they were each time built on a higher location.
The beautiful tower of the building and the branches of the tree frame the view excellently.
Wonderful blue water in the bay.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Gert, the steam engine weather vane is small but once discovered you really cannot miss it; I had to read your notes before I found it! I was mistakenly looking along the waterside.
Great view, the sun highlights all the buildings on the opposite side from you.
The w/s shot is interesting too, especially with your personal connections to the buildings.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Gert,
I was expecting something much bigger than the actual steam engine but I had to smile when I actually found it. It certainly is more entertaining than a flag,!
Your photograph is illuminated by a lovely autumn sunlight, the copper dome strongly placed and benefiting from the light.
This viewpoint makes the setting so much grander and more romantic than expressed in the workshop.
My warm regards,
Bev 😊

Hej Gert,
Et smukt billede hvor de for det meste gule huse bader i et fint og varmt efterårslys bag det mørkeblå vand. Forgrunden med tårnet og træet danner en god ramme omkring byen.

Hi Gert,I love the liberty style very much but this building does not offer many ideas that recall this type of architecture, however an interesting area and full of memories to you. Beautiful view as the main post, with the locomotive used as a wind direction indicator. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hi Gert
At first I thought that there was a depth of field problem but when I looked at the large version the DOF field was fine and all the buildings had become sharp.
A good photo across the water anchored by the dome.
cheers

Hej Gert,
Autumn weather was perfect that day. Copper dome of that building is quite special, and the the locomotive is a fun surprise. That is so small though that it is difficult to note from the street level.

Hi Gert.
A great view of the city, the pinnacle that we see in the foreground gives a greater sense of perspective.
Magnificent buildings in the WS photo, totally different in their styles and also I guess construction periods.
Very good color that highlights the strength of the image.
Superb brightness and sharpness management to capture details.
Very well done. I like it.
Have a good start to the week.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello Gert,
The copper dome in the foreground really makes this photo. I'm glad you included a full view of this building in the WS. From the main photo, I thought this dome was part of a church. I do now notice the tiny train at the very top, though. Lovely view of the city, too. Take care!

Hi Gert,
lovely panoramic view of your hometown.
You have well framed it between the tower and the tree silhouette. It was a great weather day and you made a great use of it going for a photo walk around the town.
Very well done,
M
