Black and white, a photo from Mazowieckie, East

Photographer's Note

Yesterday we had a beautiful sunny winter day. as many Trekkers, I took my camera and went for a walk. I still have a lot of photos from Africa but maybe you are bored with then already? So, the short break. I was curious if the lakes in Lazienki Park were frozen. They were. In the ice, there are big holes for the birds - mallards, seagulls, swans,. mandarin ducks. The peacocks do not like water, they remain closer to the palace. I was observing such a place when suddenly a large flock of gulls took to the air. I was quick.
I have posted already many photos from Lazienki, so here kind of experiment. will you like it? I doubt, but I do not care. The white birds against the black tree trunks and dark ones against the white ice reminded me of the Escher graphics. But maybe it is only my impression.

Hello Malgo,
Nice photo, well timed and with good contrasts of light and dark parts. In winter everything sometimes looks just black and white, but is this really 'color', as the information box says? Or did you just forget to change?

I like the negative vs positive effect with the dark toned birds against the fg white bg, and the paler toned birds almost white too, in the bg, against a very dark bg. Tfs!

Nice to see you, to see you nice again.... with this excellent B&W photo. You were very quick indeed, to catch this amazing flock of gulls in flight , gliding through the icy-thin-air gracefully against the dark menacing tree trunks.
Stunning!!!
It's also nice to see that you've been away to Tanzania.
I've to check that out later.
I wish I had the courage like you to travel. Something I need to learn from you too.
That's show, everything is possible and you beat the virus. You're back , safe and sound.

Good if contrast picture with a soft subject, everything in black and white, but I like colour

Hello Malgo, there is a strong contrast between the black and the white areas of this shot, which add to its dynamism.
I can appreciate the reference to Escher.
An experiment worth trying, I like it.

I like it. :-) This scene has a poetic quality to it. The winter feeling is in the air - literally. The split between the dark top of the photo, and then the gradual transition to completely white below, is lovely. Take care!

This is quite fascinating. Black and white landscape with gulls in between. The birds show clearly against snow and trees but not so well against terrain in between. somehow this reminds of Sky and Water of M. C. Escher.

How funny, that we should both have opted for b&w, today!

Your notes explain the surface of the lake, so it is understandable why it looks so pale and why the gulls are flying around, looking for somewhere to land!

The different positions of the birds' wings create a very good impression of movement. We see some contrasted with the ice and some contrasting with the silhouetted trees, but all in flight!

It's a good thirds composition: a black top, a grey middle and a white base!

I liked the view and this moment of the winter well registered. the birds are better shown in the dark strip above and in the ice below. anyway it is a beautiful view showing nature in movement.

Hi Malgo,
This photo has a strong impact. You caught the birds in full flight, and they fill up the photo with their aerodynamic shapes. The black background helps make the birds stand out. Although the photo information says the exposure was 30 seconds, it was obviously a very fast shutter speed to get such sharpness.

Fajny artystyczny efekt. Mi sie bardzo podoba.
Ciekawe jest tez to, ze wszystkie mewy sa tego samego koloru, a jednak kontrast powoduje, ze te na tle sniegu wydaja sie ciemniejsze niz te na ciemnym tle drzew.

Great observation and a fine capture, Malgo. Black and white is the only way to go here. I also see the link to Escher you mention in your note.
