Armenian cross-stones art.

A khachkar, also known as an Armenian cross-stone is a carved, memorial stele bearing a cross, and often with additional motifs such as rosettes, interlaces, and botanical motifs.

Since 2010, khachkars, their symbolism and craftsmanship are inscribed in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Khachkars reach 1.5 metres in height, and have an ornamentally carved cross in the middle, resting on the symbol of a sun or wheel of eternity, accompanied by vegetative-geometric motifs, carvings of saints and animals. Khachkars are created usually using local stone and carved using chisel, die, sharp pens and hammers.

This khachkar is located in Lublin on Kochanowski Square.

Hello Piotr,
This one is also nicely made but the other ones were found in a more exciting environment. They also looked older and looked like they could have told a story. But we see the intricate pattern and clever work more clearly on this khachkar.

Piotr, the stone was carved aesthetically to create an artwork. It depicts the Armenian cross, a rosace, flowers and text. This khachkar is used as memorial monument, it is a gift to Lublin city. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Cześć Piotrze, Ten Chaczkar wygląda na nowy i troche inny niz chaczkary w Armenii. które zwykle są prostokątne. Ale ciekawe zobaczyć w Lublinie. Ja widziałam gdzieś inny taki podarowany, ale nie pamiętam już gdzieś. Moze w Tbilisi? A te z Sewanu mam tez w swoim archiwum.

Hello Piotr,

This is a very beautiful piece of artwork.
I have learned a new word, a khachkar.
I love how the motifs swirl around the highly decorative symbolic cross.
It is such a pity that you couldn't avoid the parked cars. It looks so much more imposing when shown against the leafy background.
