Photographer's Note
Ruinaulta (Rheinschlucht in German) is sometimes also called Swiss Grand Canyon. But geologically this is quite different from American Grand Canyon. Instead of ancient sediments, Rhine river carves through debris of huge landslide which happened only 10000 years ago just after the latest ice age. So called Flims rockslide is known as the biggest landslide incident in the Alps and the biggest worldwide whose effects are still visible, moving some 12 km3 of rock. It is easily accessible only by the Ruinaulta line of Rhätische Bahn railway, and is a popular location for rafting.
(I have shown this place before. This time it is with a train.)

Hello Kari,
The scenery as such or the colours? It's a difficult choice what I like the most in this photo. The steep grey rocks, where trees are growing in every place fit for vegetation, look awesome, and I like very much the contrast with the icy blue river. In this scenery of mainly cold tones the red train becomes a superb eye-catcher. Even in case your main purpose was to take a photo of the steep rocks, the inclusion of the train makes all the difference to the photo. It's impressively sharp and well exposed for at picture taken when leaning out of a window of a moving train.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Kari,
What a stunning scenery!
This photo does indeed remind me of landscapes from the American West. But a very important difference is that here we do find a railway all the way through this 'canyon' and on your photo we see a beautiful red train.
Switzerland probably offers many fantastic routes for train fanatics.
The picture is excellently composed and we can look forward to the view behind the curve.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Kari
this actually reminds me alot of the scenes we see here locally when driving up to the famous ski resort Whistler. Its only a 2 hr drive from Vancouver. wonderful combinations of shadow and light, the cliff face is seriously steep, almost vertical. the train almost looks like a toy hahaha. fine shot
cheers

Hello Kari, I would love to go by this train, to admire the views. But I have so many travel dreams, impossible to fulfill, difficult to choose the first on the bucket list. impressive view of the gorge with the steep rocks. Many similar gorges but the train there is something unique.
Have a nice weekend

Hello Kari,
We are neighbours today on TE.
You chose a very nice angle with the curve of the railway.
The train is a nice addition.
Also, the big rock in background is very well photographed.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,
John.

Hi Kari
Impressive steep landscape, the pine trees are trying to stabilise the mountains in order to avoid a new landslide. The river has pushed the rocks to flow through the canyon, the people have also removed some to let place to the rail tracks. Nice journey

Hello Kari,
Fantastic landscape with these large white cliffs, alternated with some trees. The foreground is well balanced between the lake and the train as well, the latter adding a nice touch of red as well.

Hello, Kari!
The view of the mountains is impressive, very high and imposing! And the strong colors of the train make it stand out beautifully in the composition! Very nice scene captured here! Wonderful job!

Oi, Kari!
Paisagem lindíssima! Essa linha férrea parece ter um trajeto bonito, dentre montanhas e outros cenários naturais. O trem está bem posicionado na foto. Foi uma boa ideia deixar a foto verticalmente. Bela luz.
Muito bom!

Hello Kari I'm convinced you had a seat in a rear train car because on most of your last pictures, one can see the engine which is about to enter a new curve or a tunnel! Of course you chose the best place for such unbelievable landscapes, masterly captured. My preferred is this one, the railcars being set very low compared to the mountain top so the summit appears mighty. Many compliments for this art work! Cheers
