The first street to hear Rock and Pop, around the corner Jazz and Funk, then classical music and choir, after a few steps Gospel and Dance and then only Metal, the next street: Blues and Alternative, on the next square played Latin music.

According to the organizers, 175 bands and music groups played in Vilnius that day. I was sure that not everyone was registered.

The idea of a Street Music Day (SMD) has been stirring in the head of a popular Lithuanian musician Andrius Mamontovas for a quite a while and has evolved spontaneously after writing an invitation to his friends. This letter flew across Lithuania and in 2007, on the first Saturday of May, Vilnius celebrated the Street Music Day for the first time.

The idea of this festival is simple – anyone who wishes to come out into the streets and play music are welcome. It does not matter whether one can play several accords or is already a professional musician: everyone can become a participant of the festival. You can either play an instrument by yourself or in a circle of friends - it is up to you.

The Street Music Day has become one of the largest events that takes place simultaneously in a number of Lithuanian cities. Street Music Day is a day full of discoveries: when going out to the city you can always find new impressions and talented musicians around every corner.
