Photographer's Note

Having a small child determines very much choice of your weekend destinations. It does not mean however that it has to be all bad. Saltwell Park in Gateshead, which has won a name of The best park in Britain in 2005 is a great example of it. It contains everything what a child can wish for plus, as you see, a very photogenic house, Saltwell Towers.

Saltwell Towers built in 1862 by William Wailes, lies in the heart of Saltwell Park. It is a Gothic Mansion surrounded by Ornamental Gardens, which provides a relaxing atmosphere within a spectacular Fairytale Castle effect. An eclectic mix of Gothic, Elizabethan and French styles, the towers are now known as the Saltwell Park Visitors Centre and have been sympathetically restored to their former Victorian glory.
