Photographer's Note

Tomorrow is my 7th anniversary on TE.
Thank you all member friends.
I have found so much enjoyment in sharing the world through photography and friendship.

THE LOTUS OF AUROVILLE.

The lotus finds its origin in the Indian subcontinent and is the national flower of India.
The Hindus associate it with the myth of creation and consider it as a sacred plant. It's a symbol of Divine beauty.
The deployment of the petals suggests the fulfilling of the soul.

In Buddhist symbolism, the lotus represents the beauty of the Body, of the Word, and of the Spirit as floating above the muddy waters of attachment and desire.

Particularity : It's the only aquatic plant whose flowers stand above the water, unlike the WATER-LILY whose flowers float on the surface.
The LOTUS draws its substance in the mud to grow above the water.
Mud represents the suffering that is the breeding ground for our fulfilling.
Or could we say that one can always find sources of fulfillment even from difficult circumstances.
A useful message of positivity !

NB.Discussing with Andre, "Bona", I realize I made a mistake. This is not a lotus, but a water-lily.
I was led to believe the difference between a water-lily and a lotus was that the water-lily floated on the water, and the lotus stood high above the water.
I didn't realize the pistil of the lotus is very specific. See WS2 .

However, according to marina7, this can be called a water-lily, or a nymphaea-lotus, or a pink lotus.

This photo was taken at Auroville, the experimental township, 10km north of Puducherry, founded in 1968 by Mira Alfassa known as "The Mother", the spiritual collaborator of Sri Aurobindo.
As she said, Auroville is meant to be a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony, above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities.
The purpose of Auroville is to realize Human Unity.
Utopia ? Unrealizable ?

First of all congratulations to you for the time spend here, and spreading the fragrance through your photographs. Cheers for the mile stone.
I rarely go through the notes, as I am on the conviction that the photograph in itself is supposed to tell a story. However exceptions are there.
You have provided thought provoking notes.
The vision of Mira Alfassa, known as "The Mother", might seem realizable, but is this not the aim of Humanity?
Personally, I do believe that thorns are needed when the roses blooms, and the lotus always floats above the water.
How can we understand light if there is no darkness?

Congratulations on seven years here on TE! I like the way you isolated this beautiful lotus and presented it in the foreground of this shot. The flower and lily pads behind it look so graceful, and it was interesting to see the entire location in the WS photo. It's not what I would have imagined, but it has its own charm. Beautiful photo of such lovely water lily. A very nostalgic image for me. I used to collect this flower, not for the flow, but for the long stem, we used it to make fish soup with tamarine. So I get to keep the flowers since we don't eat them. Lovely image with beautiful color and composition.

Even if this photo was posted some three weeks ago. Congratulations on your seven years on TE. You photo is great with perfect focus on the lotus, and very sharp overall and the colours are really beautiful. I realise that the reason you postitioned the lotus in the middle is that you wished to include the large leaves in their entirety, but do not forget that if you wish to position the flower at 1/3 a vertical format might be better than a vertical format. an amazing nymphaea flower to crown your 7th year anniversary here, too many familiar symbols for me:))
Yes, it's a waterlilly but it's also known as nymphaea lotus or pink lotus. The one in your ws is nelumbo or sacred lotus, there're not closely related but both look stunning.
I like the way it stands tall and strong in your frame and the colors are fantastic. Hope your future works here will be blessed with this beauty:)
