Photographer's Note

For several weeks now the Theatrical Group of Leros has been working on a performance of the play "Blood Enemies" by Arkas in their little theatre in Ayia Marina.
The theatre is on the ground floor of a building constructed during the italian occupation to serve as a costoms office at the harbour of Ayia Marina.

This picture was taken after one of the last rehearsals with director and actors making observations and remarks.

There are three protagonists in the play and since one of them is hidden in this photo by the director, I have posted a picture of him in the workshop. The costumes they are wearing were used only for the rehearsals.

The play is about a crisis within the body of an alcoholic man in intensive care after a car accident. The protagonists are the large and small intestines and the right kidney:)

All the actors and contributors to the Theatrical Group of Leros are amateurs and volunteers working hard all day at their works and making way for their passion for the Theatre in the evenings.

When I looked to these picture, I thought a dramatic accident, but I reads your note, than was all resolved.
A nice daily life image with the acteurs in full action.
Original colors and very pleasant for look at.

Hi Ourania,

What an original and unusual concept for a play. Your shot certainly captures this, now I have read your note. I like in this that the director is in silhouette like this, right in front of the camera, and how all eyes are trained on him. The silhouette makes me think of Hitchcock. Very nice composition to this, it works perfectly well.

well collected what we call in Israel "motivation conversation", where in-depth analysis done.
Good view of the silhouette of the director, from his back, contrast to colorful backstage, occupy large part of pic. space - but not to disturb view of the other actors on stage.

Great use of silhouette here giving a great sense of the director at work since the eyes of the actors are fixed upon him listeningleaving us in no doubt that although he is in silhouette he is the most important part of this scene.

Playing the kidney sounds more fun than being a squirrel or a daffodil in a children's play, but who wants to be the large intestines :-).
The play may be strange but your photo is good. The light is well used and the composition is excellent, showing the faces of the actors listening carefully to the director. He looks very imposing, shown here as a large and heavy silhouette. I think he is smoking. Is that still allowed inside a theatre in Greece? The director also splits the composition very nicely at a third, with one actor and a red ball on one side, the others opposite.

A relaxed feel of an interesting people-group portrait and the attires and characterisation as if paying no attention to your lens. This looks natural, vivid and the standout colour tones add to the presentation nicely, the mood and technique involved are very well recorded. Good infor notes and the xtra image. Well done.

Hello Ourania,

You captured the moment really well, as the actors' facial expressions are so different yet so clear. The colours are great and so is your explanatory note - I would never guess that we are looking at the intestines and kidney here! What I like about this shot the most, though, is the shadow figure of the director, as it gives the image yet another layer for interpretation. Fantastic!

Hello Ourania,

You're capturing well one of the performance scene of a rehearsal by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see antord/actress and a director on the stage in theatre. Signs that the performers have faced the director with an earnest expression from this photograph are known. It's effective for a backward director with silhouette. And, the whole is harmonized well by a good arrangemrnt and excellent color combination.

I remember seeing this photo on its day of upload but i think was too lazy to write a comment that day :)
Here you used a creative way to give the depth, putting the giant silhouette on a perfect place, which doesn't disturb any elements in there, while providing us a great perspective from the audience's POV. All the figures are distributed in an exact composition, and the white balance is just perfect to avoid any yellow overcast caused by low light photography. I also like how the red ball adds to the feeling of surrealism here. Superb work.
