Photographer's Note
The very cold temperatures last weeks in Europe and France cause a very rare phenomenon in Nantes those lst day : river Loire looks like Saint Laurent in Quebec or a river in Siberia and carries thousanfs of ice plates ! These ice blocks are formed upstream the river, in areas of France where river Loire is frizzed by ice these last days. The ice blocks split in ice plates when they go downstream the river to the estuary. This phenomenon was not so important from 1985 winter. It causes problems for sailing on the river, in particular downstream Nantes. Because of the tides the ice plates accumulate on banks of the river. As a consequence the Loire ferries had to stop crossing the river. This phenomenon should decraase in next days because cooler temperatures are forecasted from this night. But the thaw might cause floods in coming weeks !
This photo was token in early afternoon today from Mauves-sur-Loire bridge, east of Nantes. The place should be called Mauves-on-Ice instead on Mauves-on-Loire ! Despite the cold temperature, there was a lot of people looking at this fantastic phenomenon !

Salut cher Olivier
A spectacular scene, beautifully captured. The ice on the water is sensational and the light on the water magical.
Amities et merci pour le partage

Hello Olivier,
You are right in your description of the river. Who would believe this was the Loire! A quite spectacular scene. The cool colours emphasise the extremeness of the temperature.
Good use of thirds composition.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)
I hope, like here in the U.K., the temperatures are now rising.

Bonjour,
Good photo showing the extreme cold weather you had in the last mouth. A lake or river this big is not easily frozen I don't think. The kind of reminded me of chunks of salt on salt lake. Beautiful light, it amost seem warm with the sunny day.
Beautiful composition and good quality as always.
Way

Salut Olivier
Merci de m'avoir indiqué le lien.
Je note ici une bonne profondeur d'image.
J'ai la nostalgie de cette région, mon épouse étant Nantaise. Ce lieu me rappelle d'agréables souvenirs.
La Loire étant plus large dans ton secteur, tu as l'occasion de faire de beaux panoramiques.
Bien cordialement
