Mouth of the river Bevano

Coastal site of high environmental diversity, located around the mouth of the river Bevano last meandering estuarine mouth of the Adriatic free to evolve naturally. The mouth of Bevano is an important area of 40 hectares, which testifies, with its natural estuary, dunes and coastal dune lakes, as it should be the whole coastal region before the massive human interventions.
The area west of the mouth is called Ortazzino and includes fossils from meanders Bevano, part of the coastal dunes, wet meadows behind the brackish groundwater with outcrops and dry meadows with thermophilic natural shrubs, dominated by juniper (Juniperus communis) and sea buckthorn ( Hippophae rhamnoides). In this complex of wetlands and dunes are present almost all types of vegetation halophilic northadriatic. From glasswort annual and perennial spartinieti and rushes to the sea, the puccinellieto.
Included in the site five kilometers of untouched coastal dunes active extended north to the mouth of the Rivers United, with small mouth estuarine salt marshes behind the dunes, and south.
Behind the dunes are the state-owned pine forests, sections Ramazzotti and Savio, created with the aim of protecting crops from the sea winds behind and have settled on the coastal strip of more recent deposition. The state-owned pine Ravenna date back to 1881, when he received from the State Forestry Administration Maritime 117 hectares of land to be subjected to afforestation with maritime pine (Pinus pinaster). The artificial pine forests have been superimposed on the original shrub vegetation typical of consolidated dunes, which, in part, remains marginalized groups and in the undergrowth.

The Ortazzo was an ancient valley of fresh water, curbed and obtained from the conversion of former rice fields. The Ortazzo is currently subject to the influence of brackish groundwater, as evidenced by the presence of rushes and sea puccinellieti and is characterized as a large coastal lake. The shallower water tanks dry up during the summer, giving rise to mudflats where settled communities Salt annual typical of these environments. The marsh is crossed by a peninsula with pine forest, Pinus pinea. South Ortazzo are wetlands and flooded with fresh water, recently restored.
This is one of the coastal sites in naturally higher and higher biodiversity. In it retains the natural succession from the sea inland, without tampering with human settlements and resorts.

Among the plant species are to be reported Bassia hirsuta, Erianthus ravennae, Plantago horned, Spartina maritima, Trachomitum venetum.

Interesting is the presence of Luscengola, olomediterranea entity, located in the region. The site is also important for migrating and wintering waterbirds and birds of prey (especially harriers and Greater Spotted Eagle) as well as for nesting Charadriiformes (Knight of Italy, Avocet, zampenere tern, little tern, Sterna common). Also of interest are the populations of Ghiozzetto lagoon and, to be confirmed, of Ghiozzetto heron. Worthy of note, finally, the presence on the beaches and natural Scarabaeus semipunctatus Cicindela majalis.
The great natural beauty of this site lies in the presence of the natural succession of habitats from the coast to inland marshes, dunes and consolidated dunes active (on which was planted the pine forest of maritime pine), a mouth meandrizzata for free and natural development , depressions behind dunes and salt marsh. This great environmental diversity leads to a considerable faunal diversity.

Especially in the marshes and lowlands Ortazzo dell'Ortazzino and wet meadows, areas where environmental quality is associated with good security, you are the fauna of great value. In particular, the Charadriiformes breeding community, very diverse, with Oystercatcher (nesting only probable), Knight of Italy, Avocet, plover, redshank, Rosy Gull, Black-headed Gull, zampenere tern, little tern, common tern, is of great conservation interest . In the expansion phase Shelduck, Garganey and Teal nesting occasionally. A small heronry of Little Egret, present for four years in the pine forest interior all'Ortazzo, testifies to the expansion of settlements south of the Delta. Occasionally found nesting in the hedges is the rare nell'Ortazzino Grey Shrike. Among the noteworthy are mammals of the Daubenton Vespertilio, bats located in the region, the porcupine, recently appeared, the Skunk.

The system of natural dunes, about 5 km long, has a rather fauna well below potential, due to excessive human disturbance caused by the numerous people who visit the beaches and dunes. Only the plover is a discrete population, while other potential species (Oystercatcher, little tern, common tern) have deserted the area because they are not able to tolerate such a large and intrusive human presence on the shoreline and, in particular, between the vegetation of the dunes. The area is reported nesting passerine Uniloc for the Delta Park, the Calandro, present in the quietest part of the dunes and grasslands dell'Ortazzino.
Poor attendance also in the coastal pine forest, especially in parts where the artificially planted forest looks too thick, so dark and devoid of undergrowth of shrubs.
Route table "dunes and pine trees", part of Lido di Dante and takes an interesting route to the mouth of the stream Bevano, among the pine Ramazzotti lining the coast or through the path that runs parallel to the coastal dune cordon tangentially to the same Pineta. The path, typically natural, proves easy on foot or by bike, you look at the same time the dunes and vegetation who set up the Pineta in Pinus pinaster and underbrush to reach the mouth of Bevano only example of the coast of Emilia-Romagna in the mouth of spontaneous and natural evolution.
Once at the river mouth, we note the presence of a village of huts almost all masonry, seaside summer tourism destination and a large parking area, the arrival point for those wishing to reach the coast by way of the bag. The route then continues along the Via della Pineta bag up in the Class.

This route is certainly the most fascinating in terms of natural and scenic areas across the state almost wild, especially the dunes and beach front and you look at the mouth of the river Bevano still left to its natural course.

Along the way of bag, from the banks of the Gravel Pit in the distance you can see the beautiful landscapes of wetlands and Ortazzo dell'Ortazzino.
