Photographer's Note

In India we have a large number of festivals and occasions to celebrate life. Holi is one of such festivals, which is celebrated across regions, caste, color, creed, financial status and the spirit of the festival is to erase all differences between people and become a colored one.
The festival is marked by music, dance and smearing colors called gulal (aabir) on each other. Everybody is colored. Though the festival is celebrated through out the country but different parts of India celebrate it in their own way. The great Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore had started Basant Utsav to celebrate Holi at Shantiniketan, the university started by him. He had composed a number of songs to mark the festivity of colors and oneness. Even today Basant utsav is celebrated in Shantiniketan and many parts of Kolkata to welcome Spring with colors and songs & dance compositions by Tagore. this photograph was shot at such a celebration held at Golfgreens, Kolkata.
