Photographer's Note

This summer has brought a great deal of travel opportunity, as I've visited fifteen countries in three months. Although my activity on Trekearth has been limited to an occasional visit to see what photos are being submitted, I haven't had much of a chance to critique them. I have, however, taken close to three thousand photos. This is a perfunctory shot, showing a grandfather and his grandson. Like the subject of my books, Leonardo, I've always enjoyed capturing contrasting characteristics — the bright and dark, the young and the old, the beautiful and the homely... There is nothing homely here, there is the young and the old, and the similarity of the smooth domes. I was on a walking tour of the historic island of Nessebur, Bulgaria, when I spotted the man pull out a chair in front of the massive door of his home, and settle into it with his fidgeting grandson. I thought it was an endearing scene, and I particularly liked the texture of the dark door. Shot in RAW, and submitted with rudimentary post-processing.

I will be back soon to post and critique, to critique and post!
