Photographer's Note
This photo is taken from a bus, that is why you might see some curious reflections in the upper right corner.
It is taken from the new Svinesund Bridge on the border between Sweden and Norway.
What you see here is the old Svinesund bridge, built between 1939 and 1942. It wasn´t in use until 1946 and then it replaced a ferry across the border.
The new Svinesund bridge was inaugurated June 10, 2005. The plan was to perform the opening ceremony on June 7, to celebrate the 100 year resolution of the union between Norway and Sweden, but the kings of each country were not available until the 10th...
The old bridge is 420 metres long and has a height of 58 metres. The new bridge has a total length of 704 metres and a height of 55 metres.
This is a view looking east, hence it is Sweden on the right side and Norway on the left side. In the WS you can see a photo I took some hours ago, while going back to Gothenburg. This is looking west, with Norway on the right side and Sweden on the left.

hello Gunnar, interesting high bridge. I like this photo but the one in WS even more. I make a lot of photos from the moving car or bus as often it is not possible to stop. I try to make photos from the train but often there are trees nearby and it is not possible.
I suppose I stayed not far from this place on a camping. I do not remember exact place. There was a small island there with swinging bridge. On this island was a memorial stone with an inscription: Tordenskjold slaget i Dynekilen 8 Juli 1716. Have you an idea where it was?

Hej Gunnar,
An excellent photo taking in account that it was taken from a moving bus! A wonderful view and lovely well saturated colours. The WS is even more beautiful, a gem really! From the map view one is coming to the conclusion that people always want to go the shortest possible way. I am thinking that at earlier times the road between Oslo and Gothenburg probably went the route where now goes roads number 22 and 165?
Greetings,
Lasse

Hej Gunnar,
Very nice picture, but how can there be a typical Swedish red cottage on the Norwegian side and yellow houses on the Swedish side? Apart from that, a splendid view, and that old bridge really looks fine. I don't think I've ever seen the new one.
Hope everything was all right in Oslo.
Hälsningar,

So there are little red houses in Norway too (even if only for boats)!
I like the coolness of this scene, and the way the bridge fits into the landscape. Interesting that only trees, and not shrubbery, etc, seem able to grow on this hard rocky land.
Best wishes,
Winifred

Well the arcitecture and construction is excellent. The best thing with the new bridge is that its now possible to see its beauty.
Enjoy your trip in Norway.

Hej Gunnar,
Nice elegant bridge linking the two sides, the landscape around is very nice, I'd like to see a red train crossing the bridge.
Have a nice day JY

Hej Gunnar,
when I first went to Norway in 1979 I passed just on the bridge you brilliantly showed us. So how many memories looking at it...
This image is superbly composed and you wisely captured also those little coloured cottages under it. The colors, the light and the clarity are perfect, thanks a lot for sharing it.
All the best.

Hej Gunnar,
so that's where the two countries meet? :) This looks like the "untouched by civilization" bit of Nature! simple and beautiful landscape. I also like the WS photo which shows a different view and, together with the "original" photo shows the full view of the area.
Despite the fact that the photo was taken through a glass, it is of a very good quality! Thanks to the cleanness of the glass :) unlike in Moscow buses LOL
Kind regards,
Elena

Hej Gunnar,
Fascinating high viewpoint from a bridge to bridge. Being on the border add some special interest. Very nice spring weather.
I guess you could have cropped off some of the sky to show less of reflections.

Hello Gunnar,
A good capture of this bridge whose graceful graphical lines stand out well. I like the diagonal perspective up the river as it disappears round the bend. Good capture form a moving vehicle; I probably wouldn't have noticed the reflection if you hadn't pointed it out. Is this bridge on the East side of Sweden? In which case, I probably went over the old bridge a number of years ago; just haven't got round to the slides from that era yet.

Hallo Gunnar!
Here you show us a really beautiful and interesting landscape, which even wothout the bridge would be worth these photos. Your point of view (a bus - incredible, considering the quality of the shot) creates a very good depth here and the eyes are wonderfully led into the sound. I like this somehow filigrane architecture which doesn't "slay" the valley.
Greetings from rather cool again Germany!

Gunnar,
I love this landscape with the nicely shaped bridge. The spacious panorama make me feel myself in nature. Do you really take from a bus, it is stunning sharp? Congratulations.
(I realized you are a really active Swedish member of TE. Could you please help: I am searching for but did not find the English translation of a poeme of Ingrid Sjostrand. I wrote it in notes of a recently uploaded photo of mine. Thank you in advance.)
Thank you for sharing it.

Hej Gunnar,
This a superb composition and POV. Excellent natural colours even if the lighting would perhaps be a little better in the morning or evening. However, I understand you did not have this opportunity. This is a picture I really enjoy. Taken into account that it is taken from bus it is an excellent photo-job TFS and have nice evening!

Hello Gunnar!
Bridges are man made structures I really appreciate! That one looks beautiful and your picture is very good, with adequate sharpness, correct exposure, nice natural colors, a very well chosen pov and a simple but effective composition!
In that landscape, I specially like those houses by the river... it seems to be such a pleasant place!
TFS - Congratulations!

Hej Gunnar,
A nostalgic view, I have passed there quite a few times when I lived in Østlandet!
Effective point of view from the new bridge across this fjord with the many names (Ringdalsfjorden, Idefjorden, Iddefjorden)...
An appealing and balanced composition with the fjord as a strong diagonal!
Greetings,

Good eveniong Gunnar,
Considering that this was taken while riding a bus and through its window, the scenery came out most exquisite catch.
Good DOF and clarity, great view of the fjord all the way till far on the curve, the bridge is in its full sight and the green trees are with a superb natural texture.
Bravo, my cong.'s for a fine photojob.
