Machu-Picchu is a very beautiful place under the blue sky and the sun,but something is cruelly missing,it has no life,it is just rocks placed in this or that way,in a semblance of something that we will recognize as a house or something else that looks familiar.
But,to see Machu-Picchu in the presence of clouds, fog or mist,is to really experience it in another dimension.You are brought in the past,you can feel the ghosts coming out of the walls,sharing with you their life.You get to know the city in a very intimate way that is impossible under the burning sun.The mist separates each part of the city,isolates them and gives them a new meaning.When the sun comes out to illuminate part of the city,setting it against another part still with its veil of fog---then it is just awesome,I will never forget Machu-Picchu in its blanket of clouds,playing with the sun.

Hello Charles,

This is high on my 'to do' list. Excellent attention to detail in this one, I like the size and scale provided by the people in the centre. The golden light reflecting to the side of the walls is a treat also. The mist certainly helps to provide that ancient, mystic atmosphere that I think you attempted to create. A great depth of field, I am able to seee clearly into the mountains in the background and beyond. Good angular placements and awesome clarity. Well done!

Nice work! This is a different view of one of the most remarkable places in the world, and one of the most photographed places around. The clouds and mist do indeed give this a totally different feeling, a little eerie or mysterious in nature. The people there give an important sense of scale too. Well done!

This is a fanatstic reflection of a fantastic location. You've captured the feel and mood of the mountain top site amongst the mist and sun-shine. The clarity, colours and composition all work to give an excellent result.

Bonjour Charles,

À première vue, on a l’impression que cette photo est atteinte d’un tilt involontaire. Mais en y regardant bien, force est de constater que seule l’énorme pierrre est responsable de cet hallucination visuelle...

Il s’agit en effet d’une scène à couper le souffle, que le brouillard vient envelopper de son mystère. La composition est soignée, avec l’introduction dans l’image de la structure au premier plan, qui s’intègre dans le coin inférieur gauche, puis nous mène aux étages subséquents. Beaucoup de profondeur, une lumière particulière et des couleurs bien vives.

Machu Picchu vue d’une autre façon. Bravo!

Hi Charles,

Very nice how you managed to capture that atmosphere you're describing. I really like it! The light you caught here is just wonderful.
It's a good catch, with some people in it but not too many. I once heard from a Perivian friend that there are way, way too many tourists there and that the vast numbers are ruining the atmosphere. Were you lucky in this shot, or isn't it that bad with tourists all over the place?

Alors, te voilà parti avec tes photos de voyage:D
À lire tes notes, on sent bien que l'expérience que tu as vécu fût hors du commun. Tu sembles véritablement avoir apprécié cet endroit. Et ça se voit! Précédemment, toutes les photos de Machu-Picchu que j'aie vu sont une vue en général de la place. Le panorama de ces photos est magnifique évidemment. Mais toi, tu nous le fais vivre de l'intérieur et je dois avouer que c'est saisissant. Les couleurs aussi sont différentes et avec la brume, ça donne une ambiance très spéciale. Le soleil frappe fort sur les pierres à droite.

Tu as le mérite d'avoir réussi à innover avec une des places les plus photographiées, bravo!

Tu me motive à poster une nouvelle photo également, merci!:D

Ici on voit bien le mariage des constructions avec la montagne.

The mixture of sun and mist really works well on the atmosphere here. The people are just enough to show the scale. I've read through all your notes from here and am impressed at how you are able to convey your feelings about the place. We were there in 01 and I've tried to explain my feelings and can't come close. It's almost spiritual and yet why should that be?! I haven't experienced anything as strong elsewhere. Wonderful place with tons of atmosphere

Une très bonne atmosphère à travers cette belle photo, un peu comme si on y était avec toi.....l'effet du brouillard peut être...:-)
La terre est vaste et il est impossible de voir toutes ces merveilles.....merci donc à toi de nous en faire profiter d'une petite partie certes, mais c'est déjà ça de pris sur l'ennemi...:-)...!

Salut Charles,
Le soleil commence à percer la brume, le vert devient très lumineux et quel superbe effet sur les ruines en arrière plan estompées par le brouillard, cela donne une photo originale, très mystérieuse et très intéressante avec une bonne composition et profondeur d'image.

I have just been browsing your Machu-Picchu posts, Charles. I like this one the best for the very same reasons that you outline in your note - the misty cloud provides a lovely atmosphere and the perfect backdrop to these ruins. Well composed and good light management. Cheers . . . David
