Photographer's Note

This is an indian lady in the Island of Amantani. Amantani Island is located in Lake Titicaca (the world's highest lake at 4000 m) 40 km from the city of Puno (3 to 4 hours by boat). The wind in this inland sea can be very strong and can make navigating conditions difficult.

The island has a population of 4,000 people of moslty Quechua descent as opposed to the predominant Aymara ethnic group in the area. However the costumes of the islanders arev ery original and different from any you may see in other QUechua areas.

This lady was standing by a fence next to the port, probably waiting for the boats to arrive with merchandise to carry uphill to the village.
