Photographer's Note

Exactly one year ago I climbed Cumbre Rucu Pichincha, a mountain overlooking Quito, the capital of Ecuador. At 4697 m, it was easy to notice the thin air, but I'm just glad I made it up there. Perhaps my favourite mountain in the world, and I know some amazing mountains.Take the cable car halfway up and hike the last 700 altitude meters following this ridge. At first I just planned to hike as high as I could. Never did I think the summit was within reach, until it slowly started coming out of the clouds. It's not unusual with snow falling on the summit although it's only about 20 km south of the equator.
