Laguna Chaxa, a photo from Antofagasta, Norte Grande

Photographer's Note

The Laguna Chaxa is located in the Salar de Atacama, within the National Reserve Los Flamencos, and is one of the best places in Chile to observe flamingos. It is a shallow Altiplano lagoon that allows the proliferation of microinvertebrates that form the feeding base of flamingos and other birds.

Hello Alexandre,
What a fantastic view of this lake with the flamingos around the water. Their reflections are beautiful in the calm water. The snowy mountain peaks form a great backdrop. I love the peacefulness and the serenity of the photo a lot.

What a fascinating landscape from Atacama! The volcanoes in a slight haze, snow capped, and the flamingos reflected in salty pools. I like this pinky-bluish colours very interesting. marvelous place.

Hello Alexandre,

THis is one of those shots that makes you take an instinctive gasp!
It is just amazing! I mean AMAZING!
The cool colour palette sets a mood which doesn't fit with our logic!
It appears cool, yet the flamingoes suggest warmth, is the white salt rather than snow?
I just love the inclusion of the flamingoes, so tranquil!
The focal flamingo is strongly placed and has a great reflection, too!

The nearest flamingo is beautifully reflected in the shallow water and provided you with an excellent foreground. The view across the plain and towards the white hills is stunning. I like the blueish tones and the blend of great clarity close to us and a fine haze further away.

Fabulous scene over the salt-pans with the flamingos busy looking for some food in the water.
Those birds known as having the "need" to consume salt.

Hello Alexandre,
You will have enjoyed your Chilean trip very much. I'm sure of that.
I've also visited the Laguna Chaxa and suppose you were there also very early in the morning.
Your composition is very good with the different strips of land in the water following each other on the image and leading to the majestic snowcapped peaks.
The flamingos and other birds are well spread on the picture.
Very nice with the reflections of the nearest one and with its vivid red plumes.
PS: Compared with my pictures of this place also taken at the end of July I see a lot more snow on the mountains on this photo.
