Photographer's Note

Despite being one of the most barren places on the planet, the Atacama has certain oases hidden away. This one, like most, is in a narrow river valley (although calling that trickle a river is a bit generous) about two hours drive from San Pedro.

This village was one of the most primitive (for want of a better word) I've ever seen. Tiny one-floored houses with flat roofs with goats in the garden and each family has a small plot of land to cultivate by the river. Certainly an eye-opener.
