Photographer's Note

Being able to reach up to 1,20 m in length, the cocoi heron (Ardea cocoi) is the only large heron with a striking black and white pattern. It is quite common on the banks of the rivers in the Pantanal, where it stands still waiting for its prey or walks slowly in shallow waters, always quite silent. When the food is abundant, they can be seen in groups, as in the puddles left by the descent of the waters.
