Vesperata de Diamantina, a photo from Minas Gerais, Southeast

Photographer's Note

A Vesperata é um evento ímpar, único, autêntico por ter suas origens nas práticas musicais tradicionais em Diamantina no século XIX, quando no período das vésperas (que são a parte da Liturgia das Horas, que é celebrada à tarde, entre 15 e 18 horas) músicos eram dispostos nas sacadas dos casarões para tocar para as pessoas que passeavam nas ruas.

Reeditada em 1998 para que expressasse as potencialidades culturais de Diamantina no pleito ao título de Patrimônio Cultural da Humanidade, a Vesperata ganhou o formato que mantem até hoje na Rua da Quitanda, com músicos da Banda do 3º Batalhão da PMMG e da Banda Mirim Prefeito Antônio de Carvalho Cruz posicionados nas sacadas dos casarões, com os maestros posicionados sobre um tablado no centro da rua se revezando na regência, cercados pelo público que ocupa as mesas dos estabelecimentos que ofertam serviços de alimentação durante o evento.

A Vesperata é reconhecida como um importante produto turístico-cultural do Brasil. Esse reconhecimento não se faz somente por aqueles que já tiveram a oportunidade de assisti-la, mas também por órgãos públicos como o Ministério do Turismo, que em 2010 premiou a Vesperata com o Troféu Roteiros do Brasil, por promover a Sustentabilidade Cultural no Município.

The tables will soon be filled by merry people having dinner. The atmosphere is already great among the lights under the black sky. The colours of the tables also make the view cheerful and the fine buildings underscore the good atmosphere.

There is a wonderful sense of anticipation, with the tables set, the menus ready and the illuminated lights on. Some people are standing around, as if waiting to see the spectacle.
It is like waiting for the opening performance of a great opera or play!
Your fine viewpoint creates good linear perspective with the colourful details.

beautiful night shot. I like the repeated element of the table, they also have the whole variety of colors. I suppose although it is night time people will arrive later.
Very stylish houses, it must be a lovely place for an evening stroll. I like in particular the star shaped lights.

There is enough place and it shouldn’t be difficult to find a table for dinner. I think there is only one problem. The tables are so close together that it is difficult to walk to your place. And maybe it is also not very attractive if your neighbours are so close.
Lovely picture that illustrate this situation.

Taí um evento que sou doido para ver, assim como para conhecer a cidade. As fileiras coloridas de mesas esperando o espetáculo ficaram interessantes, e a arquitetura típica da cidade ficou bem realçada com as estrelas de fogo nas paredes. This sounds like a nice event. It must get very crowded. I like your chosen POV, with tables filling the center, and stretching out into the distance. The architecture on both sides is nice, too. Wonderful exposure, with lovely little bursts of light that look like stars.
