Photographer's Note

In 2004 the Brazilian government launched a programme called "Light for everybody" (Luz para todos), which aimed at bringing electricity to all homes in Brazil - including the favelas.
As you can see, houses now do have electricity - but it looks like the goverment didn't really care about doing a decent job...

I took this shot at one of the biggest favelas in Rio de Janeiro - it was really impressive. Despite what I thought, life there goes on as in any other place. People are lovely and most of them are hard-working individuals who only happen to have been born there and/or to be very poor. The time I spent in the favela completely destroyed the prejudice I held.
