Photographer's Note
he Macaé River is a river in the north of Rio de Janeiro state. The river rises in the Macaé Mountain Range near the Tinguá Peak (1.560m asl) in the city of Nova Friburgo. Its course have about 136 km, its estuary is in the Atlantic Ocean at Macaé city (photo).
The main tributaries from the right bank are the Rivers Bonito, Purgatorio, Pedrinhas, Teimoso and Tres Pontas, and the streams Abacaxi, Carão, Roça Velha e Belarmino. From the left bank, born the Rivers Sana, Atalaia, Santo Domingo, Santa Barbara, Ouro Macaé, São Pedro and Jurumirim and streams Jenipapo, Guanandirana and Sabia.
The River Basin Macae comprises about 1,765 square kilometers and is bordered to the north, in part, by the River Macabu Basin, to the south, the basin of the São João River, to the west by Macacu River Basin and to the east by Atlantic Ocean. The Macaé River basin covers much of the city of Macaé and portions of Nova Friburgo municipalities, where the springs are located. About 82% of the surface of the basin is in the city of Macae.
