Photographer's Note

The jabiru (Jabiru mycteria), considered the symbol of the Pantanal, is the largest flying bird of the region. It can reach up to 1.60m in height and up to 3 meters in wingspan (distance from one wingtip to the other), weighing up to 8kg. It is an unmistakable huge stork with white plumage on the body, and bare and black neck, with wide red collar at the base.

It feeds on fish, frogs, snakes and even alligator cubs. In the photo, a specimen of this bird on the bank of the Cuiabá River (one of the main rivers of the Pantanal of Mato Grosso), waiting for some fish that can be offered to him by fishermen arriving in the small boat.
