Photographer's Note
In these last decades part of Brazilian catholic priests had a different interpretation of religion, adding a special leftist view of the Bible and life of Jesus, seen as a revolutionary personage, similar with Guevara.
These priests were involved with social movements and politic. In some regions with more social conflicts this was more usual.
Inside Saint Ann cathedral we can find a typical classic architecture, something simple and clean and with not so much character after so many reforms it suffered after centuries.
One of the most curious aspects of the interior is some modern murals we can see inside, they have a great artistic quality.
These artworks have a typical Marxist mood, one of them tells the history of a rural syndicalist who faced the power of a politician of this region after a trouble about a worker of his ranch who was being deceived and would like to bring his former chief to the work tribunal of justice. As usual in many regions of Brazil, this politician paid professional killers to kill the syndicalist who was bringing him troubles. This scene is portrayed in a mural and the victim is transformed in an hero as an informal saint. Here we can see clearly as the ideology of the local bishop was exposed in the walls of the cathedral. In a normal society this event wouldn't be a religious matter, but a police matter.
In these murals you can see the house burning, the men killed and Adam and Eve in the heaven. At side, in the other mural, you can see scenes of slavery in 19th century and Indians, showing as the oppression of the old times is present even today, after centuries. A typical social speech of the leftist part of the church.
In the main post you can see a not so controversial mural around the image of the patron saint of Goiás City, Saint Ann, ever shown teaching her daughter Mary.
Please, check the WS. The image has better quality in larger format.

Hi Jorge,
I think the present day Pope has slightly this left attitude. It is certainly complicated. In countires like Poland the church is rather on the right side of the political scene. Maybe because priests and in particular bishops are so rich that they don't want to share their money. The church was very helpful during the transfornmation fperiod from the Communism but they retained their power and probably interfere too much with present day politics.
Very interesting photos and note as always,
M

Hello Jorge,
Interesting murals and the note. In the main photo, you could straighten a perspective a bit and sharpen. But never mind. I can't tell is this leftist or Marxist, but in fact, it reminds me a lot of the murals by Diego Rivera that I have seen in Mexico City. Similar style and content.
In Poland, the priests, and the bishops especially, are very conservative. They are very active in politics influencing the law and imposing their views on society. Whenever an opportunity, I protest against it. I do not want that the catholic church decides about life and even death (in the case of the young women). Their hypocrisy and immoral behaviour are unimaginable.
Best regrads
