Photographer's Note
My second Australian Day.
My first attempt to capture fireworks.
As tradition, every January, 26, I think every major city in Australia celebrates the biggest celebration Australia has as a nation with fireworks.
This picture was taken from Pelican Point, a bit further away from the actual action.
I cropped, saturated, sharpened, and adjusted the level of the picture.
One of the teenager I met in my way home after taking this picture said, "Happy Hanoka!" I still don't understand what does that mean...

Hello Toby,
Beautiful scene over the Swan River, a great range of colour and plenty of excitement. I think that a closer vantage point would have probably been better for this particular event to get more detail of the city and to minimize the black water which covers about 50% of this frame. Also, a sharpen would help define the edges of the buildings effectively. I think the ‘Happy Hanoka’ phrase is a reference to the Jewish Festival of Lights, Hanukkah, which is held around Christmas each year. He is a bit late to say that in January though. TFS.

Hello Toby -
For a first attempt I think you did a bang up job on the fireworks and the panorama. The horizon looks to be just a tad off level, but it does not distract from the scene. Well done!
Thank you for sharing.

Toby,
I have to agree with the John's and Matthew's critiques. Regardless of the less good elements I still think that you did a pretty good job as a first one with fireworks. The ratio that you choose to post this here could have been explored to get it as a large post.

Hello Toby,
I have read your intro and I have to agree that too many TE members are chasing for the smiley faces to beef up their points. But at the end what counts is the quality of the photo posted.
On this shot, I think it is a good attempt on the firework which I have never tried. I like the effects of wind blowing on the firework which gives them an asymmetrical appearance. However, blowing from the right has resulted in the smoke blurring the otherwise beautiful skyline. These are not within your control though. I tends to agree with Matt that the water is taking up too much of this photo, unless you have a good reflection in the water to justify it. Hope you find my frank critique ok. TFS
Regards
Alfred
