Photographer's Note
I took this picture in the afternoon in the first week of Autumn. The sun had just set in and the light of the buildings had just started to appear. I cropped the image to take away the empty sky and some clutters on the sand. This is one of my favourite images.

Hi Toby,
First of all a hearty welcome on TE.
Your first picture is quite interesting (I tried the same POV (=Point of View) by night).
It is a bit overexposed though and the horizon is quite tilted... but keep trying and posting. This view of Perth is well worth a few additional trials.
best wishes for 08!

Welcome to TE!
Good first shot, too. Nicely cropped and the exposure is pretty good. Pretty sharp and nice reflections. I like the patterned sand in the foreground.
I often go to Perth and have looked across the river at this time of day while walking along the south bank, but alas with no camera!
Happy New Year.
Regards,
Andrew

Toby,
first of all a warm welcome to TE!
about your first post: it's an excellent shot to start with. A beautiful view over the city skyline enhanced by the great reflections on the water. The quality is very good throughout with good sharpness and colours intensity. As far as I can tell it's not tilted..probably/maybe some lens distortions? And I think you did well with the exposure because the only part of the picture a bit overexposed is the white reflection on the water (accordingly to my monitor calibrated with Eye One Match) and some light of the building..but nothing to be worried about; I mean..to get the correct exposure you should have stopped to 1 sec with the risk of under exposure. I prefer to have a over exposure because it's much easier to be fixed in pp without the risk to have noise..but that's my opinion, of course.
Keep posting and see you around!!
Best wishes
Igor

First post on TE with beauty Swan River view by night, i like the warm colours over the river and of course the colourful reflection make it more special. Just suggest better crop out the sand on fg and make it panorama view, i think it will be more perfect. Nevertheless it stills an impressive picture.
Great work Toby, tfs

Hello Toby
I like that colourful city by night. The reflection of the lights in the river is stunning. I think that is the best shot in your gallery up to now. Well done and keep going Toby.
Best regards
Denis!

Hi Toby,
Nice nigh skyline of a city we do not see very often, it's well exposed but lack some sharpness due to this wide aperture you have used, since you were on a tripod using a smaller aperture like f/8 ot smaller would have delivered better sharpness, also always release the shutte with timer on such shots.
Have a nice day JY

Hi Toby,
Beautiful colours and lights, remarkable clarity for a night shot. The POV and cropping please me, but I wonder if a bit more of sky and a bit less of sand wouldn't be better; maybe not, because that would put the waterline in the middle...
Regards, José.
