We left, for a while, outback areas and entered a more settled region staying the night in the old railway town of Peterborough. The town has lots of interesting old buildings but the pick of them was the former St Cecilia's Convent, now looking abandoned and empty, although there is probably a caretaker. We found it on a late afternoon walk around the town.
It looks like it has had a spell as an art gallery (see the sign on the left front of the building). Checking on the web I discovered it had been sold with a proposal to turn it into a hotel.
In the WS are 2 more photos from around the back.

Hello Ian,
beautiful light in this picture. In front, this former convent looks nice and well kept. It even seems that there is someone on the balcony. The rear part looks worse.
If it is an old railway town then maybe I went through it going by Ghan train to Adelaide. We had a longer stop in Port Augusta.
Have a nice day

Hello Ian,
Fine buildings that seem in reasonably good conditions. It's mainly the immediate surroundings that need to be cleaned up to avoid a sense of abandonment. Let's hope they can all be saved and find new purposes.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Ian,
The trees are framing well the building. The point of view is showing the details of the Grand old convent. The light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Very attractive building and nice that from the convent it will be turned into a more noble cause, into a hotel :)

Hello Ian,
I really like the architecture of the house and warm sunlight was wonderful here as well, just as the play of shadows in the foreground and on the façade. Very well captured and composed.

Hi Ian,three nice photos showing the old convent and the stables, a little ruined and I don't know if it's a good idea to build a hotel here, will there be enough tourists and customers to justify a big investment here? Congratulations on the consistently excellent quality. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello Ian,
You chose a very good time to photograph the old convent, when the low sun has created long shafts of light and shadows.
It does look like a splendid building, perfectly suitable for a hotel. Of course, it will need to attract customers to the area. Maybe the lure of horse riding could be promoted, since it already has lots of stables.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Ian, I like the sunlight filtering through the trees highlighting certain parts of the building.
The building looks in quite good repair, so maybe it won't need too much work before it is back in use.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Ian
great subject here. You know me, i would have tried everything to find a way INside. There must be an open window or something. I wonder what the interior condition is like, is it in good shape? just awesome. It must look pretty scary at night. cheers
