Photographer's Note
Two things about Australia fascinated me especially; the wide open spaces and the light.
Catching the wide expanses on camera was not so difficult, as wide expanses are everywhere. It's mainly point and shoot. But catching the light properly proved quite a major task. Light is elusive, here one moment and gone the next - especially in Australia where the light varies incessantly. In fact, this is the only photo from my 1 month trip around Australia where I feel I came even close to catching on camera the beautiful light playing over the countryside.
The photo was taken near Hobart, Tasmania, but the exact location I don't know. Somewhere in the region of 25 km west of Hobart, I reckon. The sun had just come back out after a shower, and this landscape of mist still hanging over distant hills was the result. To me, this picture epitomizes the Australia I want to go back to visit when I get the ($$) .. time ;-).
The photo was scanned, brightness and contrast enhanced quite considerably to compensate for losses during scanning, USM and resize, and then NeatImage applied to smoothen the picture.

Beautiful shot - you're right about the light and its well composed with the trees making a good focal point and the hills behind - it has a good feeling of "depth". Panoramic crop works very well. It looks a little oversharpened at the scanning stage though especially the trees.

It looks like a painting! Amazing! The colour tones are very soft and soothing and the image is very sharp and smooth, maybe it is the touchups in softimage doing tricks. I really like this landscape - a beautiful photo to share, thanks
