Trip to Tasmania – Day 2

Tamworth to Narrandera – 720km along the Oxley and Newell Highways.

Letter boxes, why not? In Australia they are everywhere and come in many different shapes, sizes, materials, colours and number at the same point. It was quite entertaining to observe them when we were driving the long straight road sections in central NSW. In here you can enjoy some of the 10 million letter boxes in Australia.

As we drive out of the Tamworth area towards the West the landscape becomes much flat and the farming/grazing properties much bigger. One sign indicating a big property is the fact that most the time we only see one single letter box (WS2) at the road turn off on the side of the highway. However, more than one (WS1) letter box only means that the turn off serves properties further away and not necessarily smaller.

The main posting shows how elaborated the letter boxes can be, in this case describing the main activity in the property. It is a detail of one of the few side roads with multiple boxes, near Gunnedah.

Your workshop number one is certainly more like it.
I like the children's drawings depicting Dad on his horse, the dogs, the sheep and the cows. Very funny.
A wonderful portrayal of Australian life in the bush. A strange bunch aren't we.

Effectivement, ces boîtes aux lettres ne manquent pas d'originalité. Chaque propriétaire tient à se distinguer par sa construction.
La boîte aux lettres présentée ne manque pas d'humour avec ces dessins qui représentent bien l'activité des occupants.

Hell Antonio,

Well, what about a letterboxes theme? This would be a great start. (On the other hand, with lesser photographers it might get boring.) I really like this series of shots, with the best one rightly in the main post.

I'm a bit confused about the name on the box: is it "Sylvandale" in one word, or is it "Syl Van Dale". (Van Dale is a well-known family name in Dutch.)

bem curiosa essa caixa de correspondência, parec mais uma casa de passarinhos, semelhante a do Woodstock, o passarinho do Snoopy do desenho Charlie Brown (Peanuts). Na verdade acho que ele usava uma caixa dessas como residência. Gostei desse desenho de criança nela também, e curiosa as churrasqueiras de bafo ao lado dela no WS-1.

Great find with your sharp eye.
Love the textures and details especially the charming child's drawing that clearly displays thier dad's occupation.
Your workshops also display a fine variety of letterboxes but I like this one the best.

la alta calidad y la nitidez de la imagen nos permiten ver todos los detalles y texturas de este buzón, en el que los divertidos dibujos infantiles y el nombre dan un buen grafismo.
Excelente encuadre en un ángulo cerrado, y buen control de la luz, me gusta.

Hi Antonio, in comparison with the ones on display on the website, this letterbox looks nicely minimalistic, both in terms of its structure as in the decoration ;-) I like the well rendered (warthered) textures and the shallow DoF. Nice to capture such an artefact!
