One Lonely Afternoon, a photo from Western Australia, West

It was one of those hot summer afternoons last year. I just bought my new camera and was more than happy to experiment with it. I waited for the sun to set. I had to wait until around half past eight at night before it got dark slowly and the sky started to show its beautiful colour.

I followed the road near my house, chasing the part of the sky where the sun set. Surprisingly, I found a small hill just next to the junction of the road I was following. I climbed it. The view was just perfect. I took some pictures. Too bright! The sun was still strong enough.

I waited until the sun disappeared from the sky and left the sky with majestic colour. I took some pictures. Love it. My first silhouette pictures...

Well, this shot could be taken anywhere around the world... =)

It actually was taken around my former unit in southern part of Swan River. The power-line pole was one of the power-line poles lining on both sides of Karel Avenue (not a main artery itself, but connecting two main arteries in Southern Perth: Leach Highway and South Street). The presence of power-line poles showed that the suburb (Willetton) where I used to live was an old suburb. The new ones would have the power-lines underground.

Well, I've moved. Unfortunately, to another old suburb with power-line poles everywhere...

An interesting choice of subject matter for your first silhouette, Toby. Although many of us try to avoid having power lines in our images whenever possible, it’s a bit of “thinking outside the box” to make them the theme of an image itself. I will grant you there’s a certain symmetry here that’s pleasing, though, and lovely sunset colors and warm tones. I also very much like that slanting swath of fractal clouds that intersect your power pole. I think I might have skipped the black frame on this one. It works fine up top, but it’s really not discernible beneath. I think I’d give you the benefit of the doubt and 2 points on TL. I’m going to confine it to one here on TE this time, though, because, unless I’m missing something it doesn’t really show us anything definitive or unique or especially identifying about your corner of the world.

C'est vrai que Maltese a raison, les ombres chinoises ici sont d'une belle élégance notamment du fait de la grande netteté de ta composition...

You've captured the colours of an amazing sunset here. It's really too bad that it's spoiled by the wires running hammock all over the shot. The clouds have a very interesting pattern as well.
