Photographer's Note

Serbian Orthodox church of St. Ilias in the opal town of Coober Pedy, Australia.

The church is located several meters underground, in an abandoned opal mine, like most objects in this hot desert town. Looking from the ground level, the town looks small, insignificant, and even ugly. However, its real beauty literally hides underneath the surface. Over 147 nations are represented in Coober Pedy, among former or current opal miners.
