Photographer's Note

This might look like a scene from southeast Asia, but it is close to Melbourne, Australia. It is a place called the Blue Lotus Water Gardens, which has several large ponds filled with different kinds of lotus flowers (most of which are not blue) and water lilies, as well as other tropical plants.

You pay a small entrance fee and then you can wander around the gardens all day. Autumn is the best time to go, when most of the flowers are blooming. I love the colours and shapes of lotus flowers like this one, and the cup-shaped seed head seen at the bottom. I applied a small amount of HDR to liven up the photo.
