Photographer's Note
"Reclaim The Streets": a movement which started in England and is influenced by ideas drawn from anarchism and environmentalism. A response to the conjestion and pollution caused by traffic, activists literally take to the streets in spontaneous actions designed to disrupt traffic and demonstrate an alternative to life dominated by hydrocarbons. Once a street is occupied, mobile sound systems appear and music and a festival like atmosphere emerges. The photo here depicts the moment when activists first arrived at an intersection in the inner-city suburb of Newtown.

A great capture, Jasper! What a strange idea...I love the image of the cop; he looks none to happy about the disruption. Are they also protesting the graffiti in the background? I'm just trying to imagine a woman in labor in a car, or someone having a heart attack on the way to the hospital. People just don't think about the consequences of such things. I'm particularly aware because a girlfriend of mine had to deliver her baby at another hospital than she had planned because of Freaknik, the black college student spring break that used to shut down Atlanta every March. They wouldn't let her through despite the fact that she was screaming that she was in labor!
Anyhow, great capture and thanks so much for posting.

Great moment. Almost absurd. It has inspired me to create a TE theme, Cops looking straight at the camera.
