The view from Meryla, a photo from New South Wales, East

The populated areas where I live, the Southern Highlands of new South Wales are mainly amongst rolling hills of rich farmland but around the edges are forested ridges and then deep valleys and gorges with rivers leading to the coast.
This photo was taken at the locality Meryla in another part of Morton National Park to my last series from around Bundanoon. This is typical of the region with a sharp cliff at the top and then steep slopes and smaller cliffs as you go down. Near where I took this photo is an access road down into a valley but it is still closed from last years catastrophic fires. In this photo and a closer up in the WS you can see patches of burnt trees that aren't fully recovered yet - note especially the flat areas above the cliffs (best in the large view). Both photos were taken looking through the tops of burnt trees.

Two excellent photographs of breathtaking landscapes!

I am learning much new information about the topography of Australia!

Isn't Nature amazing how quickly it regenerates. This was ablaze only a year ago!

It's interesting to see these two mountain ridges so similarly shaped. The parallel shapes, one green and one covered in a blueish haze, give the view a good balance. Looking at the larger versions we see a lot of traces of last year's fires.
