Photographer's Note
Peter (pboehringer), this one's for you ;)) and you know what i mean...
--
so... yup, this is it, fall peak colors of new england, flashing reds mixed with golden yellows and evergreens... and a nice cloud here or there. if you're lucky...
actually, this was meant to be more of a late evening trial shot (i did not like the 'weak' sky), but the next afternoon when we returned to the spot (burbee pond near the puny town of west townshend) all the reds had already dropped to the ground and the sky was even weaker, almost white; on top of that, due to wind the pond was no longer mirror... so, we'll have to put up with this.
some folks will accuse me of oversaturating: i'll take none of that for this one. the colors are real and anyone who has visited new england in it's fall peak would side with me (i think). of course, for the real 'burning views' you have to visit the slopes on late evening or early morning: during the mid-day harsh light the colors seem much duller. i will take full responsibility for the blown out cloud on the left though. once i install my newly acquired LR2 enabling me to wark on my RAW files i'll see if i can make the post better.
ON A SIDE NOTE: if you ever decide to visit vermont in this time of the year, make sure you have made hotel reservations wayyy in advance... on weekends, EVERYTHING is full, starting from cockroach infested rat-holes to 400-600 usd/night (seasonal price) new england bead & breakfast places featuring tennis courts and dress-up dinners in the middle of fields and slopes. also, i have to warn you, you are sure to face heavy TRAFFIC on otherwise abandoned country-side roads.
LAST WARNING: beware of folks looking sideways while steering their BMW's, Lexuses and Hummers straight at you.
speak of RECESSION, huh... :))

Hi Kristaps,
you clearly did exaggerated with saturation here ;P.
Here we have autumn to and it is so wonderful seeing such sceneries...so vivid with colours, so strong and powerful. Hard to believe it but it is true. I myself like this "weak" sky...I think it provides most elegant, gentle background to captured scenery and gives the screaming colours all the priority and glory they deserve. And it probably comes from raw, right? :)

Hi Kristaps,
it looks artificially colored! The reflection adds a lot in this compo. It duplicates all that beauty. I don't know people are afraid of the intense colors. I don't think it's oversaturated and I will find strange if someone says that...regarding the cloud at the left, you are right, working with raw could fix that easily. I don't think the nd grad would be the best choice since it would bring exposure varitation between the sky and the reflected area...it doesn't work well in this case (in my opinion). It's a very good shot, do not blame yourself :)

Hello Kristaps
That's a great compositon! I like the vivid autumnal colors and the soft blue sky. The reflection is nice and I particularly like the lonely red tree on the right. Excellent point of view and presentation! Cheers!

Thanks for this wonderful pic. I remember, I remember, I remember...Your photo rememers me when, SO many years ago, I was in N.W with my loved husband and we so often went to New England for the week-end. Especially during the Fall. And those
colors! Yes, thanks for this great shot of my old and finished life. Ciao,

Splendid ! I like it because it's not a mere copy of the reality, we can see some personal interpretation and the fact that it is not super sharp gives it the impression of a painting... Very nice, compliments !

Krsitpas,
I will come here to see these colors for myself on of this day. I was considering it for this year, but couldn't make it work with our schedule. And it's hard to predict when is the peak. I'm sure it's beautiful regardless of the peak time for the fall colors. This one is just fantastic, more than I ever imagin it to be, with the reflections of this hills, it like double the intensity of the colors. I'm in awe with this beautiful scene. Thanks

Nice one Kristaps, I like it all as it is perfect for color and crispness and pov but I lke most the tree on the right that looks so very different in the reflection than in the direct on view, it shows how the light works and how subtle changes in pov angle make huge differences in the shot.

Hi Kristaps,
What a brilliant aray of lush autumn colors seen against the lovely pastel sky as they make a striking reflection in the tranquil beaver swamp.
Excellent sharpness and clear focus to this stunning autumn image.
It is true that the colors are already fully saturated by mother nature.

It's an autumn colorfull picture you give us.
With this golden light, it seems unreal. Red tree entering in picture give an excellent effect, and cloud on left is wind blurred

Hi Kristaps,
it looks the way I imagine it...I particularly appreciate that tree and its reflection, the glowing so warm colors...and the dark grey metallic tones in the pond. And that you have not sharpened it more, it has something of a painting and a delicate look. I do like the sky as it is, as we thus focus more on the rest of the scenery. Very beautiful and very good work, with an interesting and amusing note too! :)

Hi Kristaps,
this is awesome man. I'm simply amazed by all the different shades of red that you put into your sensor to deliver this great work. Everything work really fine, from sharpness, colors, pov, lighting to the final touch which is the reflection, which is the great addition in my opinion. It's so pleasant to look at this picture..thanks for sharing with us.

Hello Kristaps! I must admit I am a little jealous :))))) On the other hand your side note does not sound too promising and I heard many stories about the tourist streams that move up from the big towns to "experience" country life. I am staying at my weekend home for the whole week and fall is peaking to the max and I just saw the leaves fly away from one of my favorite trees and the beauty has left forever, a little wind and there it goes, so you cannot wait for a second chance but take what is offered, meaning that I understand what you talk about :))) Lovely post indeed and I like your soft approach, it gives the picture a sentimental touch, another season has come and left ... Ah, the peerless NE foliage. The hill is a bit too distant to enjoy the colors, but the reflection and the nicely positioned orange tree on the right more than make up for that. Got more? Ciao,

nothing much to add to what has already been said by others. the autumn colours are amazing, I particularly like how the light skimming just the tops of the trees highlights the yellows and the reds. the tree and its reflection is just in the right place in the frame to add a focus point, off to my favourites.

Hi, Kristaps. The fall colours are really at their best here and the pleasure is doubled thanks to the beautiful reflections. The lone on the edge of the pond is very well placed even though it would have been even better if it had had yellow leaves ;o). A very good teaser to visit New England. Maybe when I have bought my BMW...
Have a nice weekend,
