Photographer's Note

this is Emerald Pool, the most colorful and famous of the Black Sand Basin's features in the Upper Geyser Basin. the yellow and orange fringes forming the outer ring are the result of a lower temperature, 67 degrees Celsius (154 degrees Fahrenheit), which allowed bacteria and algae to grow on the lining of the pool.
