Winter Horizon
Moraine Park - Rocky Mountain National Park.
Got this on the drive home from a hike in the National Park .. on the other side of the road was a herd of elk that I had pulled over to photograph and I turned around and saw this behind me .. in my opinion it turned out far better than any of the elk shots ..

Hi John,
Nice and colorful shot you got here. The only thing missing is the wildlife. Good sharpness and I like the dramatic clouds over the mountains.

Hi John. Great colours in those trees, and I like the multi level of this picture with those peaks sneaking over the mid point hills. An interesting alternative might have been a close crop of those autumn trees.

Hi John,
This photo displays a stark contrast between the autumn colors, the empty space, pine forest and rugged peaks. Beautifully framed photo.

Hi John,
Beautiful this gorup of trees, wonderful autumn colours! Really! I also like the green trees on the left, they seem small, but maybe the others are just huge! Nice contrast in size and colour! Also like the scene in the background, adds extra contrast, difference between rocks and sky is great.
Also the lonely feeling is very nice, I'm not missing the wildlife, for me it's great like this :)

Hello John, how are you?
This is areally beautiful autumn mountain view.
And such an extreme and great contrast between the snow clad mountains and the green forest, and between the dark green forest and the yellow trees.
Composition is excellent, not too centered and still really brings the view into the photo and the scenery.
Thank you for sharing.

Hi John,
These yellow trees seems aligned, like waiting an order from someone to begin to walk. It's really nice to see them ordered and, at the same time, isolated. The background green dark rends a very strong conrast with the colored scene in the foreground. Very very nice! Thanks,
Angel.

Hi John, all that colours from the hills at the back right through to the trees at the front of the photo are realy good along with you good DOF, and not a drop of water to be seen!, must admit I would love to have seen your elk as we dont have any of them running around over here, perhaps another time?.
Well done.
Take care

Hello John,
I’m impressed with this one. What a great 3 bands. Stunning autumn colors are with still green trees, dark green forest and snowy plus hazy mountains. I like your clever position that adds all important objects together in same frame. Excellent works, congratulations. I wish you a very good week end.
Friendly Regards,

Very nice colors and contrast between winter and autumn. I like the compo. Its like the group of threes are getting together to prepare and protect themselves for the strong winter.

At least, unlike the elk, you don't have to worry about whether the trees are posing in just the way you want. Beautiful rich color in those trees, for a drab cloudy day! They stand out well contrasted against the mountains. Since the sky is blah, I think you could have cropped off even more, almost down to the highest peak, and you could bring out more detail in the dark forest. But it's still a very nice capture of a beautiful scene, John. Regards, Ken.

Hello John
I'm back from vacation now and that explains the delay to answer your kind words.
Lot of mysticism is conveyed by soft backlight on those colourful trees that appear so majestic in front of a neutral dark background crowned by mountains.
Extreme impression of depth given by the 3 planes that compose this wonderful tableau.
Regards.

hello John,
Autumn in the rocky mountains--I know it well having grown up there. Well captured here by yourself.
Great expression of depth of plane and wonderful back lighting on the trees.
Well done!
