Photographer's Note
Ahhh...nothing like a day in Zions to remove the last vestiges of stress from one's mind.
Even dealing with the typical tourists running into the photo and my kids performing various science experiements using rocks and the river while they were waiting for Dad was better than the best day at work.
[For the uninformed, the proper calculation for my kids experiments is Msplash = Srock * Vrock * ( Pdad ^ Pcamera ) * Ekid / ( 2 * PIE * Pmom * Twait4dad) ) where M is magnitude, S is Size, V is velocity, P is proximity, E is energy, T is time, and PIE is...well, PIE (apple or berry). Those of you who are good with math will notice that Pdad and Pmom affect the Msplash in different ways...yes she encourages them!]
This image was taken along the riverwalk located at the Temple of Sinewava at the top of Zions Park, Utah. Once can't say enough good things about Zions...everyone must go there before they die (but not at the same time). This came at the end of a long day spent hiking the trails at Zions while hefting lots of camera gear. The riverwalk is a great place to be in the afternoon with the river and the shade cooling things down. The fall colors were just starting to change...they should be in full bloom right now. They had some big storms about a week ago that raised the water level (and distributed lots of sand) but the river flow was normal to low at the time we were there (S. Utah has had quite a drought for a number of years).
The image was shot pretty straight forward. I used my spot meter to get the water at zone 7 (I was also shooting my large format camera a the time). I picked f/11 to shoot (to avoid potential sharpness questions on TE later). The rest of the exposure time came from adding a 2 stop ND filter and a Polarizer to get about a second of time for the water.
[note to self: experiements by kids actualy help one to calculate flow and speed of water]

Great colors, with a nice blur in the stream. Good idea, the polarizer. Thanks for the pic and the interesting notes.

Hello Robert,
Your frame has more serenity then from its header. This one is an excellent scene with great autumn colors. I like especially dried yellow foliages on tree and of course little and matt brook. Red colored rock at background must be bonus. Excellent formula for calculation ;) Congratulations.

Hi Robert.
Great colors here. The water makes some really interesting lines. And the tree looks splendid. DO you know what kind of three this is?

Nice job. The overly saturated colors and effect on the water make this scene look fantastic.

Bel effet de filé sur l'eau et splendides couleurs. Une très belle photo, Robert....peut être un tout petit peu trop saturée quand même?

Very lovely shot Robert, but you don't need me to tell you that, you got to witness this beauty for yourself. Nonetheless, you captured it very well, as usual. I only wish I could have been there! I'm very jealous ;-)
Take care,
