Photographer's Note

What do you name something like this? Another red rock that looked kinda cool. Arches #371, I'm not sure. So sorry Kansas, I called it "The Monolith." Of course this name could apply to about 1000 places in southern Utah.

I was scanning a bunch of my older color slides, and came across this one that I thought had an element of design. I seem to be on a theme lately of rich blue skies and red rock and this one fit right in.

I remember taking a spot meter with me, but decided not to pack my big camera at the time, and I was a little bewildered on the exposure, wanting to keep maximum color saturation, but not lose everything in the shadows. I'm not sure now if I could go back to shooting without having a visual histogram to work from. Dang those digital tools, they have made things too easy!
