Military environmental concern?, a photo from California, West

Photographer's Note

After an Igor (Voltri)'s critique on my photo "Powered By Clean Natural Gas" ("shifted my perception of US public transport", but in "Amsterdam (...) I've seen there a regular bus driven by hydrogen"), I decided to interrupt my series on San Diego public transportation (now the theme California Public Transportation), in order to show this example of a vehicle powered by hydrogen. This is a pickup truk of the US Marine Corps, from Camp Pendleton, California. In some way the military environmental concern is a surprise to me. But the surprise is not total because
(1) this is in the State of California :-), and
(2) the military have been often on the vanguard of technological research (despite their questionable purposes).
In the workshop you see details of the vehicle with decals praising it: Your Marine Corps Helping Keep America's Air Clean, Military's first ever compressed hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicle, etc.
I saw it last April at the Earth Day 2006 Fair ("the largest free annual environmental fair in the world"), in San Diego's Balboa Park.

Olá Francisco,
curiosa mesmo essa picape Chevrolet Colorado, que será fabricada em breve no Brasil também, substituindo a S-10, que inclusive tenho uma, movida a Gasolina e Gás Natural. Aqui com certeza não teremos essas opções, ja falaram que será fabricada com motores 2.4 Flex (Álccol e Gasolina) e 2.8 Turbo-Diesel Eletrônico, que utiliza a Norma EURO-IV de controle de poluentes, mas mesmo assim são bem fumacentos e barulhentos esses motores a Óleo Diesel. Já o motor americano Vortec 4.3 V6 )o famoso american way of life) já não é vendido aqui nas picapes S-10 a tempos, consomem demais e viraram micos no mercado de usados, ninguém quer, também, fazem 4Km/l na cidade...

faz todo sentido os militares testando novos combustíveis, a maior parte das encrencas dos americanos nos últimos anos se deve à dependência de petróleo importado. boa e informativa a foto
