Photographer's Note
This is a shot of the American Fork River as it cascades down through American Fork Canyon in Utah. I captured the water using a relatively quick shutter speed (because I know that Dana likes it better than my long 'milky' water). I did capture one here where the water is more to my taste...I'll post it tomorrow...maybe...
I captured the image using shutter priority, f/6.3 and 1/30th of a second. I would have liked a little more aperture, something around f/11-f/13 to get a little better depth of field but I did not want to use a longer shutter speed. 1/30th was about as slow as I could go and still get the water with some action.
I suppose looking back on it now I could have bumped the sensitivity of the camera up a bit and still got the shot I wanted...but it's hard to think about that when one is standing with one foot in VERY cold water, battling with the other foot on the slick, moss covered rocks and with the one free hand putting off a tired, frustrated wife who would like some help corraling the offspring instead of being a spectator on the bank...maybe if I had given her better odds of me falling in? ;-)

This is a very pleasant composition! I like pictures of running water in general, but this one combines a pleasant complexity of lines, beautifull fall colors and amazing clarity of the picture!

Hi Robert,
I think it worked out well. the sun through the trees, and I think you are right about the exposure time, well done. Good framing too.

Hi Robert,
The ultimate autumn picture.
The composition is just beautiful and so are the colors. This picture looks like a painting!
I like the effect of the long exposition time on the water.
Thanks for sharing.

Robert,
Thank you, I am impressed that you ventured out of your comfort zone and exposed this at a higher shutter speed. It shows the subtle cyan of the sky above, something that would have been missed with the longer shutter speed. Nice shot.

Beautiful! I think you were right in using the faster shutter speed to show the power of the river. I might have toned down the hot spot in the foilage top center, but that would be it. Great eye.

Robert, I like this one. The rugged stream bed that tosses the water around is well portrayed, giving the viewer a deep sense of the sound of water rushing and smashing around the boulders.
I also enjoy the slight and subtle hints of sunlight against elements in the frame.
Your choice of the faster shutter speed prevents the overexposed look you can get with long exposures on streams. I was up there 2 weeks ago and the water in my shots was just too white.
Great shot.
Deeb.
