Photographer's Note

OK, so here I am driving around on a beautiful Sunday afternoon on a back road in the Pennsylvania countryside. The road twists and turns and suddenly I spot this view. I couldn't resist getting pulling over and taking a few photos. I thought I might try posting a black and white conversion. The original color version is in a workshop.

Not much has changed in areas of Durham Township over the years. This area has been largely unspoiled by development. One has to wonder how the original settlers must have felt when they beheld sites such as this. The area was settled in the late 1600's and reknowned for its iron ore deposits. The township itself was established in 1775. The blast furnace that once produced iron here has long been shut down but the township has not lost its peaceful rural feeling.
