When asked what they think of when they think of Arizona, most people who haven't visited would say one of three things: the Grand Canyon, the red rocks around Sedona, and desert. I think this photo captures the essence of the latter.

While looking at Google Map's satellite view, I spotted what looked like a volcano's crater just north of Interstate 8 west of Gila Bend. Having driven by the area numerous times, from the highway it looked like it could be a cinder cone. This past Saturday (20 Feb) I decided to check it out. The result? I obviously need a course in interpretation of satellite images as there is no crater at the top.

This photo was taken looking west from an unnamed, unnumbered dirt road on State Trust Land east of the village of Sentinel. My target was (I found out later) Sentinel Peak which rises a bit over 300 feet/100 meters from the Sentinel Plain.
