The Bethesda Fountain, with the famous Angel of the Waters statue atop.

The angel is blessing the Pool of Bethesda and giving it healing powers. The fountain was built to commemorate the Croton water system. the system brought fresh water for the first time to New York City in 1842. In angel left-hand there is a lilly a symbol for the water's purity.

The statue is the only one commissioned for the Park. Created by Emma Stebbins. She was the first womman ther received also the firfor a public art commission in New York City.
