The Ultimate Car

Boise, the capital city of Idaho, has got some very interesting street art, which my father has already shown a bit of, but here’s a completely different example from another part of the city. This large mural is found on the side of the Adelmann Building in the historic district of the city. The building was built by Richard Adelmann, a German miner and Civil War veteran, in 1902. The shop’s had many different tenants over the years, but Richard Adelmann himself owned an automobile repair shop here, called Stearn’s Motor Car. The mural isn’t original though, it was painted in 2000, based on an old advertisement for this company.

A good bit of almost history in the street art. Good looking old car but I'm not sure any of them made it too Australia. Good one.

Hej Lars,
Detta är ju inte direkt den vanliga graffitimålningen. Den är ju ovanligt fin, så jag hoppas att den aldrig blir förstörd av klotter. Jag undrar om det är en ren tillfällighet att parkeringsautomaten i hörnet är placerad intill informationen om "Private Parking". Hur som helst så är ju kopplingen mellan dem perfekt, och det var lika perfekt att du fick med en person vid automaten. Det hörnet höjer ju värdet på hela bilden. Den är för övrigt väldigt snyggt beskuren.

The presence of the person has an effect of scale. The point of view is showing the details of the mural. The light is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

Hi Lars,
quite an extraordinary mural.
Very well captured with some natural elements of the parking.
I remember the car registration plates always use a name of a state like Golden State for California or a Sunshine State for Florida and for the Idaho I think it was "state of the famous potatoes", which I though was quite sad...

Hopefully my final stop when I retire. Many of my family reside in Idaho, Oregon, Arizona, and California. You visited beautiful country in Idaho. I like the capture of the mural. I am hope you had a good in this part of the USA.

Hi Lars,really beautiful this reproduction of an old advertisement, it was done so well that it would seem original of the time, I needed to read the notes to understand that it is only a copy of 19 years ago. It's very unusual to see a vintage car from 1912 still being advertised, so I should have guessed it was painted in 2000. The man at the petrol pump or gas bowser as they say over there, animates the shot and gives scale. Tfs!

Hello Lars,

I'm glad that you explained the details of this advert for it does look very authentic. Possibly it was a copy of an advert that as there previously.
This is a really good bit of street art. It is colourful, well painted and tells us a lot about the style of car in the 1912's. Wow, this was the ultimate! I wonder how the people from that era would relate to modern cars!
Is the parking info pertinent to modern times?
It appears as if the single figure is addressing a parking metre.
Your photo is very well cropped so all the info relates to what you want to show. Though modern, it seems like a real blast from the past!

Hello Lars, it is good that an advertisement from the early 20th century has been utilised in this way; interesting that the car doesn’t have a driver!
It’s an eye catching piece of art.
The information about the times for parking are displayed on the wall then on the notices, which is a nice touch.
The man at the ticket machine brings the scene into the 21st century.

I must have missed this one...That man looks small standing in front of such a large mural. Too bad it's not really an old ad, but it still looks great. I like all the old bricks, and the contrast of the old car in the ad, and the modern parking lot.

this is too good! what an impact the man makes on the bottom left, so glad you waited for him to be in the scene. Ah, too bad it wasn't original, that would have been better, but still, as a photo its great. You're lucky there were no cars parked as that would have ruined the scene. nice one

Et usedvanlig flott veggmaleri. Jeg så selv en del gode eksempler der borte, spesielt i småbyer langs route 66. Mannen med parkeringsautomaten har nok en nyere bil, tenker jeg, men han er uansett fint inkludert og gir samtidig en god pekepinn på veggmaleriets store format. Veldig bra!
